Music Monday: Stir - Looking For

The 90's represented something of a musical renaissance for St. Louis. Growing up here, I saw bands like Gravity Kills, Radio Iodine, and The Urge rise to prominence thanks to local radio station The Point, and its eponymous local music compilation and concert series (the latter of which still goes strong, today). Today's artist rose from those halcyon days, as well. Stir was one of the best (citation needed) of the "modern rock alternatives" to come out of my hometown, bringing a level of skill and showmanship which has yet to be matched (citation needed).

Hey...science is important. Seriously, 'Murica...this should shame us. I'm not commenting on Mr. Obama's scientific knowledge, but the average American probably looks cross-eyed when it comes to anything science-ish. I wish we invested more time and energy in education, research, development, and general furtherment of the human species, than we do on ensuring one group's imaginary friend receives enough attention. Seriously, folks...the First Amendment to the Constitution guarantees the freedom of (AND FROM) religion. You don't get to make laws granting rights to one religion, which restrict the rights of those who don't follow that religion. I'm not a Christian. I don't want anything to do with your religion. I don't want your religion influencing my rights, my friends' rights, or anyone else's rights. If you choose to follow a religious law, great. That's your choice. It's not mine, and I'm not beholden to it...nor is anyone else. The United States is an Agnostic nation, despite whatever agenda right-wing Christians might try to push. If you think your country should follow biblical law, then I invite you to live in Iran, Saudi Arabia, or any other country that subscribes to Sharia Law. I don't need religion to determine my morality. I believe in treating other humans with respect and dignity, without the threat of some sky-bully's wrath.

In short...keep your religion to yourself or go fuck yourself. It's there in the letter of the law. Plain and simple.

If you can't get on board with that, then please...go walk into a lake. Seriously. I'm done with people who have to dictate the lives of others. Fuck you. Live your life, stop trying to run other people's lives. It's not your business. It's not your responsibility. The time for politeness is long gone. Fuck you. Live your own life. Your pre-conceived notions of gender, sexuality, or whatever don't matter. Not one tiny little bit. Live your life as you will, but leave everyone else alone. Everyone has the right to live the life they're meant to...and only they can determine that path.

Sorry for the rant. As I see more of religion's ugly head rear up in politics, I get more angry. At the end of the day, I just wish we could all treat each other as humans.

Stay awesome, friends.
